“Domain King” Rick Schwartz has sold “property.com” to foreclosure.com. Rick purchased the domain for $750,000 USD less than 3 years ago. Details of the deal have not been disclosed at this point and it is not known if “properties.com” was included in the deal.

Property.com will include all listing types, including those indexed the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), creating a database that could surpass more than 15 million homes, but not including distressed properties, which will remain the business of Foreclosure.com. […] The new Property.com will be unveiled sometime in 2009.

While the idea of selling off your almost expiring domains is not a necessarily new one to the industry, it is gaining popularity and exposure through various avenues. Many domainers attempt to get rid of unwanted expiring domains just before they are up for registration renewal fees.

Sometimes this practice is frowned upon, due to the fact that a buyer will have to purchase the name and pay an additional fee to the registrar to maintain ownership. This problem has led various marketplaces to require expiration dates to be posted or do not allow domains expiring soon at all.

DNForum’s New Expiring Soon Domain Sales Forum

One of the most popular and lively domain discussion communities, DNForum ($50 lifetime membership fee) recently created a new area to be used for selling your domains expiring within 30 days at a fixed discount price of $20.

Why they require the price to be $20 is not clear.  One could sell a domain for $16 and still have doubled their investment.  The fixed price restriction should be a maximum of $20 or something of the sort.

This process is meant to save the domain owner the cost of renewing a domain. It also offers a buyer the opportunity to find decent names at a discounted price.  Otherwise these domains will not be available for several weeks while they go  through the pending-delete process or potentially get backordered.

One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure

It will be interesting to see how this new expiring domain sales forum progresses in a few weeks. Technically you should be able to take note of older posts and scan them for availability.  Because these names are essentially in the “bargain bin” you will most likely find that many will become available soon.

When selling domain names you need to consider what goes through the mind of potential buyers.  Almost all domain sales marketplaces allow domain sellers to list multiple domain names for sale, be it domain forum posts, classified listings, email newsletters or auctions.

Large amounts of domain names in a single place can be overwhelming to a buyer.  Even if they find value in several of your names they may be unwilling to make a decision on a specific few and let’s face it, they are not going to buy them all.

This idea can apply to almost any industry.  The fewer options a user has to pick from the better chance they will actually make a purchase.

The phenomenon can be attributed to a buyer’s time spent browsing or shopping.  We all have the equivalent attention span of a goldfish on the internet.  A buyer can easily find 1 or 2 names in a list of 10 very quickly and make an offer or purchase.

Give it a try, start posting sales listings with 10-15 names instead of 50-100.  And it should go without saying that your short list of names must be of good quality and decently priced.

Bido Successfully Auctions First Domain on Launch Day

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Moniker will accept domain submissions for its Internext Summer adult domain auctions through Wednesday, June 18.The live auction will be held from 2-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in Regency Ballrooms 2 and 3 at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Fla.”We are extremely pleased to be bringing back, for the fourth time, the world’s only adult-centric domain auction to Internext in August,” said Farley Cahen, vice president of licensing and business development for AVN Media Network. “The adult marketplace is growing ever more competitive.
